The Time Capsule - Stories

Italy and back

Departed Grantham one Friday evening in September to catch the 6.15am ferry from Dover to Calais on Saturday morning. Then to Two men and boy sitting at table on beachSwitzerland via Fance, Belgium and Germany arriving at 7.30pm on Saturday evening (driver only nodded off once!). Two nights spent there, then on to Italy to a seaside resort near Genoa on the Mediterranean coast.

Several days spent there until a storm blew the tent down and soaked most of our possesions. Everything was loaded into the car and and off we went across Italy to the Adriatic coast near Rimmini (driving past Florence without visitng - not a cultural holiday!). The best part of a week was spent there, the highlight being a trip to the kingdom of San Marino. From there it was north to Lido De Jessolo.

We were at Lido for over a week as I recall and we drove up to Venice for a day. A city well worth visiting and the pizza was pretty good as well.

The first stage of the trip home took us through Austria to a camp site near Munich (Brits not particularly welcome at sites nearer the centre. The reputation isn't recent!). Then the cultural vist of the holiday to the Munich Beer Festival. Unable to find our way back to the nearby railway station and taxi was required to return to the site.

Due to catch a ferry on the Sunday morning three weeks after leaving we headed for a site near Kaiserlaughton and on the Saturday via Luxembourg and Belgium to Dunkirk as the sites at Calais were closed as it was October. Then to Calais on the Sunday morning and home. Twenty three days and 3,199 miles.
